As a business owner there are many things that we need to keep in place, things that we need to accomplish and promises that we need to deliver.
A caution to the wise: through it all, don’t forget your soft skills; they will either make you or break you.
Did you know that there are over 100 soft skills that your company can put into practice, which will set you apart from your competition?
In this blog I will highlight only five:
These skills are of most importance for the continued survival of your business in today’s very competitive world. How will these five skills improve your overall performance and profitability? Let’s explore each one and find out.
Critical thinking is the proper analysis of a situation or problem to make the correct judgment. When you accurately analyze in detail, to ultimately make a final ruling, you move forward with a decision. During this analysis, one must take into consideration how the final decision is going to affect certain people on your team, and one must process the displayed emotions in order to have the desired behavior that will change and improve your performance as a business.
Active listening is an essential component when evaluating problems within your organization or issues you need to resolve for your clients. When your team members or your clientele understands that their need is heard, they will express more openly, helping you to understand better and allowing you to have all the information necessary to make the most appropriate judgment and final decision.
As a business owner providing services, we need to be excellent in communication skills to be able to speak in a professional and transparent way. Also, we must be able to read other types of communication such as non-verbal. For example, being able to read into gestures, facial expressions, and a person’s body language will help connect more and understand how certain things affect that individual who as a result can affect an entire company in general or can determine if you keep that account or not.
Organizational skills are a must. It is important to be an organized person because in a company when dealing with many people, systems, software, and clients, one can drop the ball and cause a huge mistake that can turn into a loss if you are not focused. Being organized allows you to concentrate on each person, system, software and client and deliver the utmost customer service possible.
Finally, leadership skillsare paramount because businesses need to have the vision to be inspirational to their team and clientele. They need to know how to use all the resources in their power to bring out the best in the people. Here at 1st Advantage Business Solutions we deal with many owners that have been in business for years but had no idea how great their product or service was until someone on our team evaluated everything and validated their business. The owner gains the inspiration needed to continue building their business with a renewed and refreshed determination. Those are the qualities of a leader, and I am happy to say that our team exudes that kind of inspiration to our business owners.
There are new and higher standards to follow. It used to be, that as long as you had the right price you could grow your business and stay competitive; however, that no longer is the case. To achieve the highest level of service that consumers are looking for and the best places for the most talented people to be employed at,
you will need to go hard on your soft skills.
Wish you luck with your business and let us know how we can help you and your team polish those skills.
